architecture - Joburg City Power Control Centre
Conceptualized as the nerve centre for Joburg City Power, this new green development will house the management and power distribution control for the cities’ electrical power grid. Situated in the gritty industrial areas South Johannesburg, the facades that enclose the control centre emulates a protective cranium, while the adjacent building will house management offices and a visitors centre which is screened by a photovoltaic envelope which reduces the heat loading on the building and generates 15% of the project’s power requirements.
The building is designed to meet performance criteria for a 4 star GBCSA office V1 rating with specific attention to minimizing energy use and its associated carbon footprint. The project includes executive and management office space, a visitors centre, the power distribution control rooms and associated support services. |
