The house responds to site and function in a manner that is conspicuously oblivious to the norms and conventions of a house. Thermal mass technology is used for the roof, lowering the energy requirements of the building by ensuring the interior is cool in the summer and warm during winter.

The deep overhangs and northern orientation of the glass façade provide protection from the fierce Gauteng sun all year round. All significant trees on the site have been conserved, and indigenous landscaping is used.
