architecture - Hunterstoun Leadership Centre The 'kraal' is the heart of the centre. Two giant trees hold this space with old and new buildings forming the edge of a shared space. The planted concrete roofs of the new buildings mimic the rocky cliffs and lush mountains tops of the Hogsback beyond. Fellows units are buried close to the cliff edge, along the contours, facing the view over the valley.

Careful consideration was given to the creation of an energy efficient, low water-use centre, designed with local, low maintenance materials. On site sewer treatment and mini hydro power generation are part of the project brief.

In 2009 the University of Fort Hare purchased a portion of the Wilson family farm in the Hogsback for the creation of the Hunterstoun Centre; a unique African space to attract African leaders and in any fields to foster reflection, interaction and creativity.

The centre includes workshop spaces and accommodation for fellows to stay for up to six months as well as short term accommodation for conference delegates.
