architecture [Built work +2000m2] Sol Plaatje University Science Centre In the same way that veins and arteries connect and feed the parts of a living creature. The buildings functions are organized around an internal “avenues”, which maximizes connections between people and functions. The connecting avenues also encourage pausing and gathering promoting social learning interactions, and a total learning environment.

A bold yet understated building, with a thick face brick exoskeleton, with deep cut penetrations carved into the facades to optimize natural day lighting in the labs and class rooms.

This subtly varying pattern of penetrations and solid brick panels forms the core of the buildings a non-ornamental narrative, which references the way in which nature builds complex structures with simple building blocks and repetitive patterns.
