Lebone II College
2012 PHOKENG, RUSTENBURG
The college has capacity for 800 learners from grade R to matric. The facilities include 37 class rooms, 4 laboratories, library, IT center, drama class, auditorium, art class, hall, refectory and kitchen, staff room, offices, clinic, 2 boarding houses, 7 teachers’ house, sports fields and courts, attenuation dams, and conservation areas.
The L-shaped plan of each class room wraps around a courtyard, creating a light, airy and dynamic teaching space. Wrapped on two sides of the classroom are; ablutions, locker niches, and the teacher’s office, making these spaces personal and less institutional. The classrooms are clustered together forming “villages” consisting of a gradation of spaces from small locker niches to the amphitheater for gatherings of the whole school. This richness of communal space fosters a school community where every one belongs, promoting participation in learning.

SPU Student Residence
2015 SOL PLAATJE UNIVERSITY, KIMBERLEY
The residence’s design encourages interaction and connection among students, cultivating a sense of belonging. A key objective in climate design is to reduce reliance on electrical and mechanical heating and cooling, achieved through naturally ventilated rooms that receive winter sunlight and are shaded in summer. The design maximizes the number of north-facing rooms for optimal winter sun exposure.
